With a swashbuckler, since you basically sneak attack with any melee attack, you can get both. Why would your target follow you if he can attack the barbarian right in front of him and not take that secondary damage? The problem is this: with an arcane trickster, you'll either get that secondary damage OR you'll get sneak attack (most of the time). It's an amazing cantrip, you can sneak attack with it and with your bonus action disengage, you'll get a decent amount of mileage out of the secondary effect of the spell.
You'll get a ton of mileage out of booming blade. You want an owl familiar for flyby and it can give you advantage on an attack. Here's what I'll say though: you're better off with a swashbucker and the magic initiate feat (or multiclassing a level of a spellcaster for booming blade and find familiar). Of course if you have someone who can cast faerie fire then advantage becomes less of a problem.Īs for being a Vuman melee consider dual wielder if you want some extra AC and dual rapiers lucky because that's broken and ritual caster for extra utility. Find familiar might also be good if you can convince a cleric to cast sanctuary on it and or abuse the dodge and flyby abilities. I'd recommend going full rouge, the TWF isnt worth the ASI and it's probably better to just pump intelligence and pick up the green flame blade cantrip for arcane trickster which will let you deal an extra 1d8+int to your target AND procs sneak attack if you use shortswords. You might consider multiclassing after level 9 Arcane Trickster into Wizard for a few levels and get a lot of mileage out of Magical Ambush, as well as allowing you to grab spells like Misty Step and Shield.
